PHOENIX, April 26, 2019 /HalcyonTV/ -- In addition to paying nearly double what most businesses pay in federal taxes (thanks to the 280E federal tax provision) Arizona's medical marijuana program contributes substantial state and local tax revenue right here in our state.
Medical marijuana businesses are required to pay all state and local taxes. Medical-marijuana sales are subject to the state's 5.6 percent sales tax, as well as city and county taxes that range from 0.25 percent to 4 percent. Tim Sultan - Executive Director, Arizona Dispensaries Association The Arizona Dispensaries Association (ADA) estimates that medical marijuana sales last year brought in $46 million in state and local tax revenue. That money is used by local governments to fix roads, support education and preserve public safety. In addition, the 117 operating medical marijuana dispensaries, and their integrated farms, also pay property taxes in Arizona. Finally, the state fund from card fees, which cost dispensaries $500 annually to renew for each employee, has overflowed to $60 million so far. Arizona's medical marijuana program currently provides access to 190,000 patients in a state with 7 million people. Those Arizona patients pay all their taxes on medical marijuana, while all pharmaceutical drugs are tax-exempt. Tim Sultan, Executive Director of the Arizona Dispensaries Association (ADA), said, "Arizona taxpayers benefit from every sale of medical marijuana. And the small business owners, who operate local dispensaries, are proud to give back to their communities." The AZ Department of Revenue, counties, and cities all have tools available to ensure tax compliance from the industry – just like any other business. The ADA says they work collectively with government entities, including Arizona's Dept of Health Services and Dept of Revenue, to provide education and ensure compliance in this emerging industry. The Arizona Dispensaries Association (ADA) is the voice of Arizona's cannabis industry. ADA membership is comprised of licensed dispensary owners and those actively engaged in business in Arizona's medical marijuana industry. The organization is dedicated to advancing the AZ cannabis industry through political advocacy, public education, and professionalism. BlackStar Industrial Properties Offers Space in New Fully Licensed California Cannabis Complex4/18/2019 Fully compliant space lets cannabis businesses quickly enter or expand in the California market with low overhead, negotiated utility rates, and favorable taxes NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., April 18, 2019 /HalcyonTV/ -- BlackStar Industrial Properties (www.blackstarip.com), announced that is has a single space left in its state-of-the-art cannabis complex in Southern California. Lease applications are now being accepted for this space as well as for Phase 2, scheduled to begin occupancy later this year.
With over 20-years' experience building large-scale communities throughout California, BlackStar worked with some of the leading experts in the cannabis industry to build the world's finest, fully licensed and compliant cannabis complex. BlackStar has been leasing space to responsible and professional businesses seeking to enter or expand in the California market. Laurie Holcomb, President of Blackstar Industrial Properties said that the complex is unique for a number of reasons. "Many start-ups underestimate the challenges ahead. For instance, some companies leased space in a new 'cannabis zone' only to discover the property had not obtained water rights or sufficient electrical capacity, which will be expensive and take years to remedy. "Others found excessive local taxes that could have been avoided if they built in an adjacent city. And some entrepreneurs failed to consider that power rates vary greatly, not only from one region to the next, but sometimes from one side of the street to the other." With years of land building expertise, Blackstar knew how to work through these issues, and developed a fully-licensed indoor facility, designed and constructed by leading architects, engineers and general contractors, geared toward attracting the industry's top compliant cannabis brands and companies. The complex features some of the lowest taxes in California, along with guaranteed power at agricultural rates, fiber optic infrastructure, plenty of parking with easy freeway access, and low lease rates. "We developed the first cannabis campus of its kind, with state-of-the-art technologies, best-in-class innovations, a top line infrastructure, and in a cannabis friendly location," Holcomb said. "This complex is where the industry's best and brightest will go to grow their companies and expand their brands." Those interested in entering or expanding in the California cannabis market, can call BlackStar Industrial Properties for information or a lease application, at (949) 257-1177.
