Authorities ID Oakland Man Who Died in Oakland-Alameda Estuary

UPDATED:   ABOUT 8 HOURS AGO ALAMEDA -- A man who died after an SUV plowed through a guardrail and into the Oakland-Alameda Estuary was identified Sunday by the Alameda County Coroner's Office as 31-year-old Jeffry Hardt, of Oakland.
Fire crews pulled Hardt from the Toyota SUV after it went into the estuary around 7 a.m., and an ambulance took him to Highland Hospital. But he was declared dead there, Alameda fire Capt. Jim Colburn said.
The crash happened around 7 a.m. in the Nob Hill Foods parking lot near the Fruitvale Avenue bridge. A cashier at the store, 34-year-old Brian Tetirick dove into the estuary to try to save the man.
He dove under the water twice but said "it became completely black" underneath. After the two attempts, co-workers helped pull Tetirick from the estuary.

Diving teams searched for other victims Saturday but did not report finding anyone.
